3rd One: Air India Flight from Delhi to Vancouver Delayed by 22 Hours

DELHI- Tata Group owned Air India (AI) flight from Delhi (DEL) to Vancouver (YVR), which initially scheduled to depart on June 1 faced significant delay and departed on June 2 (Today).

There are two main reasons for cancellation, first there was technical issue with aircraft and another reason was the staff reaching their mandatory Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL).

Air India Delhi to Vancouver Delayed

The Delhi-Vancouver flight of Air India, which was to depart on Saturday morning, finally left at around 3:26 PM local time on Sunday.

An Air India spokesperson while addressing the issue said, “AI185…was delayed because of technical issues and subsequently due to crew coming under the mandatory Flight Duty Time Limitations.”

According to FlightRadar24 data, the Air India Flight AI185 was earlier schedule to operate by VT-ALO but due to technical problems, it was changed to operate by VT-ALT.

VT-ALT is a 14-year-old Boeing 777 aircraft and is powered by GE90 engines.

At the time of publication of this post, the flight is airborne and flying over Russian airspace. It will land 9 hours later.

This is the third instance in a week that Air India’s long-haul flights to North America has been delayed significantly.

The Delhi-Vancouver flight of Air India, which was to depart on Saturday morning, finally left at around 3:15 am local time on Sunday.

Earlier, the Delhi-San Francisco (SFO) flight, scheduled to depart at around 3:30 pm on Thursday, was delayed for over 30 hours and eventually took off at 9:55 pm the following day.

On Saturday, the airline issued an apology and offered each passenger on the delayed San Francisco flight a travel voucher worth USD 350 or around 29,000 INR. The delay was attributed to multiple factors, including issues with the Boeing 777 aircraft’s air-conditioning system.

In response to the recent delays and inadequate passenger care, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a notice to Air India, seeking an explanation.

The notice specifically cited the delays of two flights: AI183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30 and AI179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24.

I personally think Air India really needs to up its game, especially in this monopoly and profitable routes. According to unknown source, the Air India’s 70% flight delays come from its US flights, which is way higher for such reputed carrier.
