Archer and Etihad Teams Up for New eVTOL Pilot Training

RIYADH- Archer Aviation, a leader in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Etihad (EY) Training.

This MOU sets the stage for a partnership aimed at recruiting and training pilots for Archer’s Midnight aircraft in Abu Dhabi, to operate flights across the UAE.

The announcement was made at the Future Aviation Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Archer is showcasing its Midnight aircraft for the first time in the country.

As part of their planned partnership, Archer intends to deliver a Midnight aircraft simulator to Etihad Training’s center in Abu Dhabi. This simulator will be used for research and development of pilot training competencies, supporting the necessary regulatory certifications.

Etihad Training will provide local guidance and expertise, engaging with the GCAA and other local authorities to establish appropriate pilot training requirements for the safe and efficient operation of Archer’s aircraft in the UAE.

Archer has been collaborating with various entities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to expedite the launch of its air taxi services across the region.

Today’s announcement marks another significant step in the development of Archer’s infrastructure within the region.

Executive Remarks

“Training a fleet of pilots to operate our aircraft is essential for establishing a thriving urban air mobility network in Abu Dhabi and the UAE,” said Nikhil Goel, Archer’s Chief Commercial Officer.

“Etihad Training is the ideal partner for this initiative. As their first eVTOL partner, we will initiate a careful recruitment process and begin training the first class of qualified pilots to operate Archer’s Midnight aircraft for commercial operations in the region.”

Captain Paolo La Cava, CEO of Etihad Training, stated,

“Etihad Aviation Training currently recruits and trains pilots for numerous global airlines. We are thrilled to partner with Archer as our first eVTOL collaborator to recruit and train the inaugural class of electric air taxi pilots for the Midnight aircraft in Abu Dhabi by 2025. We look forward to installing the Archer Midnight flight simulator in our facilities later this year.”

Launch in 2025

In late April, Archer and ADIO signed an agreement to accelerate Archer’s commercial air taxi operations in the UAE, with a planned launch as early as next year.

This agreement includes in-country manufacturing, operations, and training, positioning Abu Dhabi as a global leader in urban air mobility. The goal is to commence air taxi operations with Archer’s Midnight aircraft next year.

Archer aims to revolutionize urban travel by replacing 60–90-minute car commutes with 10–20-minute electric air taxi flights.

These flights are designed to be safe, sustainable, low-noise, and cost-competitive with ground transportation.

Archer’s Midnight is a piloted, four-passenger aircraft designed for rapid, back-to-back flights with minimal charge time between them.
