IndiGo Chennai-Mumbai Flight Declares Emergency Amid New Bomb Threat

MUMBAI- An IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight 6E5314 from Chennai (MAA) to Mumbai (BOM) received a bomb threat on Saturday, June 1, 2024, leading to a full emergency declaration at Mumbai airport.

The IndiGo crew discovered a note in the lavatory mentioning a bomb. The flight landed safely, and passengers were deboarded at the isolation bay. Further security checks are ongoing.

IndiGo Bomb Threat

According to FlightRadar24, the IndiGo flight took off from Chennai at 6:57 AM local time and made an accelerated emergency landing in Mumbai.

The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai at 8:45 AM local time. Following the bomb threat, the security forces were alerted and they inspected the aircraft in the isolation bay.

The flight was operated by a year and 6 months old Airbus A321neo, registered as VT-IMW.

This is the second bomb threat IndiGo has received in less than a week.

On May 28, an IndiGo flight from Delhi (DEL) to Varanasi (VNS) received a similar threat. All passengers on flight 6E2211 were safely evacuated through emergency doors, the airline said in a statement. The airline added that all necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay per airport security agency guidelines. The flight had 174 adults and two children on board.

In a statement, Delhi Fire Services mentioned receiving a phone call from IGI about a bomb threat at 5:40 am.

Additionally, a message on a tissue paper reading “BOMB BLAST @30 MINUTES” was found inside the aircraft’s lavatory and was seen by the pilot. At the time, the flight had just pushed back after boarding was completed, the statement added.

Furthermore, on Friday, May 31, a bomb threat targeting Vistara (UK) flight UK611 from Delhi caused a brief scare at Srinagar International Airport. The alarm was raised when Air Traffic Control (ATC) Srinagar received a threatening call.
