Aeromexico Pilot falls sick

On June 4, after departing MTY for MAD, the flight diverted back to MEX. Flightradar24 data showed that the Boeing 787-9, registered as XA-ADL, turned back to Mexico while north of Lynchburg, Virginia, in the US.

As it turned around, the aircraft descended from its cruising altitude of 37,000 feet (11,277 meters) to 20,000 feet (6,096 meters), maintaining that altitude for the remainder of the journey back to Mexico.

The Aviation Herald reported that a first officer on flight AM34 fell ill during the flight, prompting the diversion.

The Aeromexico Boeing 787-9 landed at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) at 17:33 local time (UTC -6), reported Simple Flying.

The Aeromexico aircraft eventually departed for Madrid using the special flight code AMX034R, according to Flightradar24. It left MEX at 20:18 local time and landed at Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) at 13:52 local time (UTC +2) on June 5.

Flightradar24 records show that XA-ADL returned to MEX on flight AM2, a regularly scheduled service between MAD and MEX, on June 5.

The direct route from MEX to MAD is operated under flight AM1. However, the return flight to MEX departed several hours later than scheduled. The Boeing 787-9 was expected to arrive at MEX at 14:25 local time but landed at 19:30.

The Mexican carrier offers a total of 95,046 departing weekly seats from its home country, amounting to 384.5 million available seat kilometers (ASK) for the month.

However, Madrid (MAD) is Aeromexico’s only Spanish destination. The airline serves the Spanish capital from three Mexican airports: Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Guadalajara International Airport (GDL), Mexico City International Airport (MEX), and Monterrey International Airport (MTY), with a total of 34 weekly flights departing to MAD.
