Air Canada Boeing 777 Operating Toronto-Paris Flight Experience Engine Fire

TORONTO- Air Canada (AC) reported that one of its flights from Toronto (YYZ) to Paris (CDG) on Wednesday evening experienced an engine issue shortly after take-off and had to return to Pearson Airport.

The airline stated that flight AC872 encountered an engine problem shortly after departure and subsequently returned to Toronto. The Boeing 777 aircraft had 389 passengers on board.

Air Canada Engine Fire

According to flight status information, the plane took off at approximately 8:45 p.m. and landed back at Pearson Airport at 9:50 p.m.

“Following the aircraft’s landing, it underwent inspection by airport response vehicles by standard operating procedures, and it taxied to the gate without incident,” Air Canada stated in a statement provided to Global News.

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority confirmed that the plane was met by Toronto Pearson’s fire department upon safely landing.

A video shared on social media depicts what seems to be the aircraft landing with an orange flashing glow visible.

Aircraft Grounded

Air Canada announced that the aircraft will be taken out of service for evaluation by maintenance staff and engineers, reported Global News.

The airline arranged for passengers to board another aircraft, with the rescheduled departure set for 1:32 a.m. on Thursday.

This marks the second instance in approximately two weeks where an Air Canada flight departed from Pearson Airport and returned shortly after takeoff due to engine issues.

A flight from Toronto to Delhi on May 27 also experienced an engine problem and had to return to Pearson Airport.
