Porto Connection

Air Canada’s new Porto connection marks its first service to the city and third to Portugal overall. This expansion results from the collaboration between Turismo de Portugal, ANA Aeroportos, Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal, and Air Canada.

Carlos Abade, President of Turismo de Portugal, emphasizes the strategic importance of these new routes in diversifying tourist markets and promoting year-round tourism across Portugal.

Canada represents a growing market for Portuguese tourism. In 2023, Canadian visitors ranked 10th in overnight stays (2.7% share) and 9th in guest numbers (3.3% share) among international tourists in Portugal.

The country saw a 56.9% increase in overnight stays and a 54.5% rise in guests from Canada compared to the previous year, totaling 593,000 visitors.

Flights to Prague

Air Canada will relaunch direct flights connecting Toronto and Prague in the summer of 2025, bridging a six-year gap in service between the two cities. Prague Airport announced this development on August 26 via the X social network, marking a significant expansion in transatlantic travel options.

The seasonal route will operate from June 6 to late September 2025, offering three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Air Canada will deploy its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner for this service, departing Toronto at 20:25 and arriving in Prague at 10:45 the following day.

Michaela Claudino, director at CzechTourism, expressed enthusiasm for the new route on LinkedIn. She highlighted the potential for strengthening ties between Canada and the Czech Republic, anticipating an influx of Canadian visitors to Prague’s renowned attractions.

Claudino commended Prague Airport for its efforts in attracting new airlines and welcomed Air Canada’s return to the Czech market. This route restoration is expected to boost tourism and business connections between the two countries, offering travelers more direct options for transatlantic journeys.
