Air India Boosts UK Network with More Flights to London and Birmingham | Exclusive

GURUGRAM- Tata Group-owned Air India (AI) announces significant expansion of its UK routes for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024. The airline will increase flight frequencies on several key routes, enhancing connectivity between India and the United Kingdom.

If we talk about Europe-India sector, it is currently served by 16 airlines, with Air India and its subsidiary Vistara (UK) dominates the market.

Air India UK Flights

As per recent reports and schedule updates, here are the changes as reported by Sean M:

Ahmedabad (AMD)-London Gatwick (LGW) service will see a boost to five weekly flights starting November 25, 2024.

  • The new schedule includes departures from Ahmedabad at 13:10 and 13:15, arriving in London Gatwick at 17:20 and 17:25 respectively.
  • Return flights will depart London Gatwick at 20:00 and 20:10, landing in Ahmedabad at 09:35 and 09:45 the following day.

Bangalore (BLR)-London Gatwick route will increase from five to six weekly flights effective October 29, 2024.

  • The outbound flight, AI177, will depart Bangalore at 13:05 on all days except Tuesday and Saturday, arriving in London Gatwick at 18:05.
  • The return flight, AI178, will leave London Gatwick at 20:35, reaching Bangalore at 11:50 the next day, operating every day except Saturday.

Goa Mopa (GOX)-London Gatwick service will see an increase to four weekly flights from the current three, starting November 30, 2024.

  • The AI145 flight will departs from Goa Mopa at 13:00 and arrives in Gatwick on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 18:20.
  • The return leg is scheduled as AI146 departs LGW at 20:30 and arrives back at Goa on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 10:05.

Further, Amritsar (ATQ)-Birmingham (BHX) route will expand from three to four weekly flights beginning November 26, 2024.

  • Flight AI117 will depart Amritsar at 13:45, arriving in Birmingham at 17:15, operating every day except Wednesday and Sunday.
  • The return flight, AI118, will leave Birmingham at 20:30, landing in Amritsar at 10:00 or 10:05 the following day, with slight variations in arrival times depending on the day of operation.

Boeing 787 serves these Routes

All these routes are served by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. Air India 787 features 18 flatbed Business Class Seats and 238 economy seats.

Air India has a fleet of 27 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and is set to add seven 787-9 Dreamliner after merger with Vistara.

Further, Vistara 787-9 comes with two configurations, first one has 30 Business, 21 Premium Economy, 248 Economy seats. While the second one has 30 Business, 36 Premium Economy, 226 Economy seats.

Air India provides two major meals on European flights as they often takes eight to ten hours to complete. Passengers can choose from dozens of meal options based on their convenience in advance.

British Airways (BA) and Virgin Atlantic (VS) are the biggest competitors of Air India and Vistara on UK-India sector.

Air India and Vistara combined have 31% Europe-India market share as it offers 160,000 one-way seats. Majority of it is deployed to UK. These new additions will further consolidate the Air India Group’s dominance in growing sector.
