Air India Cabin Crew Assaulted

The airline’s spokesperson states that Air India is providing comprehensive support to the affected crew member and her team, including professional counseling services.

Air India is actively collaborating with local police to pursue legal action against the perpetrator and working with hotel management to prevent similar incidents in the future.

An Air India flight attendant suffered an assault in her London hotel room, sustaining minor injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 AM when an intruder entered her room while she slept.

The attacker, wielding a clothes hanger, assaulted the crew member and attempted to drag her as she tried to escape. The victim’s screams alerted nearby colleagues, who intervened promptly.

Authorities apprehended the assailant, suspected to be a homeless individual who gained unauthorized access to the hotel. This incident raises serious concerns about the hotel’s security measures and protocols.

The flight attendant received medical treatment at a local hospital before returning to India. Air India is providing counseling services to support her recovery and well-being.

Assault in Air

Earlier in June 2024, Mumbai police arrested a 25-year-old man for assaulting cabin crew and attempting to open the door of an Air India Express (IX) flight from Kozhikode (CCJ) to Bahrain (BAH). The incident forced an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM).

Abdul Musavir Nadukandee from Kerala allegedly attacked crew members and tried to open the aircraft door shortly after takeoff. Crew members restrained him, but he continued verbally abusing and threatening passengers.

The pilot, perceiving a security threat, diverted the flight to Mumbai and alerted security officials. Authorities have charged Nadukandee under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Aircraft Act.

Similar Incidents

Well, in May 2024, An El Al Airlines (LY) flight from Tel Aviv (TLV) to Tbilisi (TBS) returned to its origin after a passenger displayed violent behavior towards airline staff. The incident, described as unusual but not terror-related, prompted the airline to coordinate with Israeli police to remove the disruptive individual.

A witness reported that the disturbance began approximately one hour into the flight when the man produced medical cannabis and began shouting. The passenger allegedly struck a flight attendant and claimed to suffer from PTSD related to experiences in Gaza.

Other passengers intervened, attempting to calm the man and separate him from the crew member. The incident highlights the challenges airlines face in managing passengers with potential mental health issues or traumatic experiences.

In April 2024, SWISS International Air Lines (LX) Flight LX19 from Newark (EWR) to Zurich (ZRH) made an emergency return after an unruly passenger assaulted a flight attendant and attempted to breach the cockpit. The incident occurred during the initial ascent of the Airbus A330, carrying 236 passengers and 13 crew members.
