Air India Express Engine Parts

Air India Express flight IX145, bound for Bahrain (BAH), experienced an engine issue after takeoff from Delhi. The crew managed the failure according to established procedures and executed a precautionary landing.

The airline reported the incident to DGCA and relevant agencies. Air India Express acknowledges reports of metal pieces discovered at Shankar Vihar but cannot confirm their origin pending investigation results.

DGCA sources suggest the metal part might be a broken engine blade. The regulator’s probe aims to determine the part’s origin and circumstances leading to its presence outside the airport.

The aircraft involved in the incident is a Boeing 737-800, registered as VT-AXR. Further, it is a 17.2-year-old aircraft and is powered by two CFM56-7B engines.

This incident raises questions about aircraft maintenance, safety protocols, and potential risks to areas surrounding airports. The investigation’s findings may impact future safety measures and operational procedures for airlines operating in India.

The emergency landing and subsequent discovery of engine parts highlight the importance of prompt reporting and thorough investigations in aviation safety. DGCA’s swift action demonstrates the regulator’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards in Indian aviation.

Delhi Police receives a call from Vasant Vihar resident Shivani Pathak reporting metal pieces falling from an aircraft onto her house. Pathak, an Indian Army captain, presents a small black metal piece as evidence.

Police responded to the scene, confirming the caller’s account of an aircraft passing overhead and dropping metal debris. The incident raises concerns about aviation safety and potential risks to residential areas near flight paths.

Similar Incident

Well, it’s rare but not the first time that aircraft parts have fallen from the aircraft.

In late July 2023, a Boeing 767 belonging to United Airlines (UA) experienced a mid-air emergency, resulting in the unexpected detachment of its emergency evacuation slide.

A potential tragedy was narrowly avoided on Friday night (Jan 5, 2023) when a panel on the Boeing plane blew out at 16,000 feet during an Alaska Airlines (AS) flight AS1282. Following this, all Alaska 737 MAX 9 and those operated by other airlines were grounded for 20 days by FAA and NTSB.

Again, on July 2024, United Airlines (UA) flight UA1001 from Los Angeles (LAX) to Denver (DEN) operated by Boeing 757 made an emergency landing at DEN without one tire. According to United Airlines, there were 174 passengers and seven crew onboard the aircraft.
