Air India Operates Special Charter Flight AIC24WC to Fly World T20 Champions Home

BARBADOS- Tata Group-backed Air India (AI) sends special charter flight AIC24WC to Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI).

The plane aims to bring home the victorious Indian cricket team, support staff, BCCI officials, and players’ families. Hurricane Beryl stranded the group on the island for three days.

Air India Charter Flight for ICT

Reports indicate the contingent will depart Bridgetown at 6 PM local time, arriving in Delhi at 7:45 PM IST on Wednesday. But the flight was delayed, and it took from BGI at 8:56 AM UTC (2:26 PM IST)

The flight AIC24WC is operated by Boeing 777-200LR, registered as VT-AEE. Further it is a 15.3-year-old aircraft and is powered by GE90 engines. Earlier it was operated by Delta Air Lines (DL) and still has same configuration as used by DL.

Operations Resumed on Tuesday

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced on Tuesday evening that the airport would likely resume operations within ‘six to 12 hours.’ She told PTI, ‘Airport personnel are completing final checks. We aim to resume normal operations urgently.’

The Indian team faced a tight departure window, with another hurricane expected today (July 3, 2024) .

Mottley expressed hope that the Indian team remains in high spirits despite the lockdown. She noted, ‘Despite the hurricane, they must be in excellent mood after ending their 11-year title drought on Saturday. I think they’ll be floating on air for a while.’

The team has remained at their hotel since clinching the trophy, awaiting safe passage home.
