Akasa Air Inaugurates New Flight from Mumbai to Riyadh

MUMBAI- India’s youngest and greenest carrier, Akasa Air (QP) operated its maiden flight on June 15, 2024, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), Mumbai to King Khalid International Airport (RUH), Riyadh.

The launch event was hosted at Mumbai Airport in the presence of Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Akasa Air.

Akasa Air Mumbai to Riyadh Flight

The airline will initially launch six weekly services at the times listed below and will transition to daily services effective July 1, 2024.

Flight schedules have been carefully planned for maximum passenger convenience.

QP567 BOM 20:05 – 21:55 RUH

QP568 RUH 22:55 – 05:35(+1) BOM

BOM-RUH flight is operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8. The first flight was operated by a 4.8-year-old aircraft, registered as VT-YAB.

In early May, the airline also announced Jeddah (JED) as its second international destination, with flights commencing on July 15, 2024. But now Riyadh is its second int’l destination and Jeddah will be third.

Flight QP561 from Mumbai to Jeddah will depart at 19:35 and arrive at 22:25 local time. The return flight, QP562, will depart Jeddah at 23:55 and arrive in Mumbai at 07:25 the following day.

Furthermore, the Low-cost carrier plans to operate two daily flights between Mumbai and Jeddah, increasing to 12 flights weekly from July 21 onwards.

Competing with Other Carriers

Traffic between India and Saudi Arabia consists of blue-collar workers, trade, and religious travelers, reported Network Thoughts.

Saudi Arabia accounts for 3.9% of India’s total trade. India maintains a trade deficit with Saudi Arabia due to fuel imports from the Arab nation. Major exports from India include cereals and vehicles, while primary imports are fuel and chemicals.

  • In the Mumbai – Riyadh sector, the airline will compete with Air India (AI), IndiGo Airlines (6E), Flynas (XY), and Saudia (SV).
  • On the Mumbai – Jeddah route, its competitors will be Air India, Vistara (UK), IndiGo, Flynas, and Saudia.
  • For the Ahmedabad – Jeddah sector, competitors include IndiGo and Saudia.

King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh serves the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia.

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah serves both Jeddah and Mecca, with Jeddah being a port city and Mecca being the holiest city for Muslims worldwide.

Since March 28, 2024, Akasa Air has operated four weekly non-stop flights between Mumbai (BOM) and Doha (DOH), enhancing air connectivity between Qatar and India.

Doha is Akasa Air’s first international destination and is the capital and commercial hub of Qatar. Doha holds a prominent position as one of the key economic drivers in the Middle East.
