Fort Worth-based carrier, American Airlines (AA) has scheduled its shortest widebody route between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Cancun International Airport (CUN), Mexico.
The airline will deploy the Boeing 777-200ER to serve this latest short widebody sector which is just 531 miles apart, as per Great Map Circle (GC Map).
American Airlines Shortest Widebody Route
According to Ishrion Aviation, the route analyst, American Airlines will serve the Miami-Cancun route daily with a 777-200ER from December 19, 2024, until January 6, 2025.
Here’s the Miami-Cancun flight schedule:
- Flight AA2494 departs Miami at 8:35 AM, arriving in Cancun at 10:32 AM.
- The return leg, AA1469, leaves Cancun at 11:40 AM, landing in Miami at 1:35 PM.
The previous shortest widebody route also originated out of Miami and went to Charlotte (CLT). The distance between MIA and CLT is 651 Miles and AA operates daily flights as of August 2024.

The 777-200ER, 787-8, and 787-9 feature Flagship Business class. The 777-300ER stands out as the only widebody in American’s fleet offering both Flagship Business and Flagship First classes.
Seat configurations vary across models: 777-200ERs have 37 business class lie-flat seats, 787-8s offer 20, and 787-9s provide 30. The 777-300ER boasts eight exclusive first-class lie-flat seats and 52 business flat beds.
American Airlines’ widebody fleet has evolved over time. The airline previously operated Boeing 757, 767, 747, Airbus A330-200, and A330-300 aircraft.
