American Airlines Announces New Destination in California with E175s

FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) expands its domestic network by adding flights to Carlsbad, California. The new service to McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD) starts on February 13, 2025.

Envoy Air, American’s regional partner, will fly twice daily to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) under the American Eagle brand.

Passengers will travel on a 76-seat Embraer E175. The plane offers 12 first-class seats, 20 extra-legroom seats, and 44 standard economy seats. This addition gives travelers in northern San Diego suburbs a convenient alternative to driving to San Diego International Airport or Los Angeles International Airport.

Carlsbad, home to Legoland California, sits 35 miles north of San Diego. The new route connects this coastal city to American Airlines’ extensive network. Travelers can now reach destinations across the United States and Mexico with just one stop.

An American Airlines spokesperson told to TPG, “We’re excited to link Carlsbad to our global network. This service will create easy connections for Carlsbad residents and bring more visitors to experience the city’s attractions.”

American Airlines enhances its domestic network by launching flights from Carlsbad to Phoenix. This move connects Carlsbad to American’s extensive hub, offering one-stop service to major U.S. and Mexican cities.

Carlsbad’s McClellan-Palomar Airport regains scheduled commercial service after nearly a decade. Currently, only JSX operates from Carlsbad, flying to Las Vegas and Scottsdale. The last commercial flight from Carlsbad was in April 2015, when United Express flew to Los Angeles.

The airport will partner with the Transportation Security Administration to ensure passenger safety. Airport director Jamie Abbott welcomes American Airlines, expressing excitement about the new service.

American Airlines continues to focus on strengthening domestic and short-haul connections. The airline recently added flights to South Caicos, Turks and Caicos, and expanded service from New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
