American Airlines Los Angeles-London Flight Makes Emergency Landing in New York

NEW YORK- On June 17, 2024, a Fort Worth-based American Airlines (AA) flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to London Heathrow (LHR) experienced abnormal noise after takeoff, following this the crew decided to make an emergency landing at New York (JFK).

Flight Attendants informed the passengers about technical issues and they are diverting to New York.

American Airlines Emergency Landing

According to Aviation Herald, American Airlines flight AA136 was at 33,000 feet and flying over Hudson Bay in Canada, when the crew reported abnormal noise, probably from the engine or associated systems.

Flight Radar 24 data reveals that American AA136 flight took off from LAX at 9:37 PM UTC. After being airborne for almost three hours, the aircraft reported technical issues.

Following this the crew descended the aircraft at 22,000 Feet until it landed safely at New York JFK at 3:41 AM, almost 2 hours and 30 minutes later from reporting the issue.

The flight was operated by Boeing 777-300ER, registered as N728AN. It is a 10.3-year-old aircraft and is powered by GE90 engines.

On June 18, N728AN operated a flight to nowhere after being grounded for two days, mostly a test flight to inspect the aircraft in actual flight condition.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has taken the note of incident and is currently investigating it.

In FAA Statements on Aviation Accidents and Incidents page, it stated that “American Airlines Flight 136 landed safely at John F. Kennedy Airport on Monday, June 17, around 11:30 p.m. local time, after the pilot reported an abnormal noise. The Boeing 777 departed Los Angeles International Airport en route to London Heathrow Airport. The FAA will investigate.”

Subsequently, on June 16, 2024, American Airlines flight AA2491 from Denver (DEN) to Philadephia (PHL) with a Boeing 737 reported a bird strike, damaging the radome.
