WASHINGTON- Fort Worth-based American Airlines (AA) is planning to establish a new IT hub in Hyderabad, India. This strategic move aims to leverage the city’s skilled IT workforce and position the airline at the forefront of technological innovation in the aviation industry.
The move comes amid Telangana CM’s Visit to the United States, where he met executives, govt officials, and leaders of Fortune 500 companies.
American Airlines IT Hub in Hyderabad
The news was first reported by JonNYC, an aviation analyst from the US. He shared the presentation snap supplied to him by a verified source.
Dubbed “Tech Hub – HYD,” this initiative marks a significant expansion of American Airlines’ global IT operations. The new hub will collaborate closely with the company’s existing US-based technology centers, fostering a synergistic approach to innovation and resilience across the airline’s digital infrastructure.
Ganesh Jayaram, Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) of American Airlines was presenting this information.
Key aspects of the Hyderabad Tech Hub include:
- Tapping into Local Talent: The hub will harness Hyderabad’s reputation as one of India’s premier markets for technology and innovation, drawing from a deep pool of skilled IT professionals.
- Seamless Integration: Working in tandem with US Tech Hub locations, the Hyderabad center will contribute to delivering value through innovation and enhanced operational resilience.
- Future-Ready Capabilities: The hub aims to strengthen American Airlines’ IT capabilities, keeping the company ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving technological landscape of the aviation sector.
- Proximity to Partners: By establishing a presence in Hyderabad, American Airlines positions itself closer to key technology partners in the region, facilitating more efficient collaboration and faster development cycles.
The airline will begin hiring employees for the IT office in Hyderabad in October 2024. Some unconfirmed reports reveal that the airline will initially hire US-based staff to manage the office. However, they are likely to recruit and outsource affordable labor available in the local market.

This is not the first time that a US carrier has knocked on Indian doors for outsourcing. Chicago-based United Airlines (UA) already has an office cum Service headquarters in Gurgaon, India.

Telangana CM on US Visit
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy embarks on his second foreign investment tour, targeting the United States and South Korea. The tour, lasting until August 10, aims to secure substantial investments for Telangana, building on the Rs 42,000 crore secured at Davos earlier this year.
Revanth’s itinerary begins with diaspora meetings, followed by a series of high-profile business engagements. On Monday, he met Cognizant’s CEO and representatives from Signa, Arcesium Corning, Zoetis, ARGA Investment Management LP, and Rapid7.
Tuesday’s schedule included talks with PepsiCo and HCA leadership, the World Bank president in Washington DC, and SAIC representatives.
Wednesday featured meetings with Charles Schwab, American Airlines, and ITServe Alliance, concluding with a diaspora leaders’ event.
Thursday’s (today) agenda focuses on technology and manufacturing, with visits to Apple Park and meetings with TriNet, AURUM group, Amgen, Renesas, and AMAT. A semiconductor sector roundtable, organized by CGI, SFO, and USISPF, is also planned.
Friday’s schedule includes discussions with Google, Stanford University, Amazon, Zscaler, Enovix, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Monarch Tractors, and UC Berkeley.
The delegation will travel to South Korea on Saturday, extending the investment drive to Asia.
