FLORIDA- According to reports, Atlas Air (5Y) Boeing 747 operating flight to Miami (MIA) was diverted to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and while taxiing wing tip collided with one of the Hangar structures.
Atlas Air was operating flight 5Y9330 from Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) in Santiago to Miami International Airport (MIA).
Atlas Air 747 Collides with Hangar
As seen in images, the Atlas Air Boeing 747-400F freighter aircraft’s wing tip collided with a pillar of the Signature Flight Support hangar. Further, no injuries were reported to any personnel on the ground.
According to Flight Radar 24 data, Atlas Air flight 5Y9330 took off from SCL at 11:37 AM UTC and was scheduled to land at MIA at 4:21 PM local time.
However, following the bad weather, the aircraft performed a go-around. After making holding patterns near Miami airport, the flight crew contacted ATC and they ordered them to divert to FLL and landed at around 8:22 PPM UTC, the nearest airport to Miami.
The aircraft involved in the incident is 747-47UF, registered as N496MC. Further, as per Planespotters.net, the aircraft is 25 years old and is powered by four GE engines.

Luckily, the aircraft did not suffer major damage, and after inspection by engineers and technicians at FLL, the plane was certified as airworthy.
Following this, the aircraft again took off, this time from FLL at 4:57 PM UTC, and landed at Miami in just 21 seconds, probably the shortest 747 flight ever made.
