Delta Flight Reject Takeoff

For context Delta Air Lines operates dozens of daily flights between Orlando and Atlanta. DL1505 was operated by Boeing 757-300 aircraft. As per some reports, MCO-ATL is the busiest domestic route for Delta and flight always go full.

The reddit user wrote,

“Delta flight DL 1505 MCO to ATL 10/3/24 details.
Got on runway 35L, take off power was applied but removed shortly afterwards. Used brakes and reverse thrust to slow back down. We coasted to the middle of the runway and got off around taxiway E.
Pilot later told us it was a mechanical issue, and we will have to go back to the gate for mechanics to take a look at it.”

Delta pilot later reported that the actual issue was due to hydraulic failure. Pilot told DL1505 passengers,

“It was a hydraulics issue on the left engine. we have taxied to the gate and mechanics have met us there. Stay on the airplane.”

But the mechanics were unable to fix the issue while passengers were onboard the aircraft.

Passenger wrote on reddit, “They made us get off because they had to replace the hydraulic pump and ‘run it up’.”

Flight Delayed by Over four hours

After replacing the pump, they took aircraft for ground run and after getting go ahead from engineers, they board the passengers, and flight took off after four hours and 30 minutes from its scheduled departure time.

Reddit user wrote, “Back on the airplane, the pilot said it was a switch that was saying the hydraulic pump was not functioning. They replaced the switch and took it somewhere to run it up to take off power for a minute. All checked out. We are finally departing MCO for ATL. It was originally a 100% full flight but now it’s not as full. It was worth the wait to have an empty middle seat next to me and a $12 meal voucher.

Passenger appreciated the DL Pilot and wrote, “The pilot on DL1505 was very communicative and let us know all details.”

Well, rejected takeoffs are not rare but pilots need to be extremely careful during such occurrences as plane can get out of control and can lead to serious incidents and accidents.

Last week, Delta Air Lines flight DL2139 encountered a bird strike during its approach to New York’s La Guardia Airport (LGA). The Airbus A319 aircraft, registered as N329NB, was en route from West Palm Beach (PBI), Florida.

As the plane neared runway 22, a bird collided with the aircraft, resulting in a cracked windshield. Despite this incident, the flight crew maintained control and successfully made a safe landing at La Guardia Airport.
