HYDERABAD- An official delegation from the Telangana government, including Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, along with senior officials, visited the U.S. to promote investment opportunities in Telangana to Delta Air Lines (DL).
They encouraged Delta to consider introducing a direct flight from Atlanta (ATL) to Hyderabad (HYD).

Delta Atlanta to Hyderabad Flight
Minister Sridhar Babu highlighted various investment opportunities in Telangana during a meeting with Delta’s Vice President and CTO, Narayanan Krishnakumar, at their Atlanta office.
He assured government support, emphasizing Hyderabad’s growing appeal as an investment destination in the aviation sector.
Following the presentation, Mr. Krishnakumar and the Delta Air Lines team expressed willingness to invest in Telangana, according to a release from Mr. Babu’s office on Saturday.
Mr. Reddy also urged Mr. Krishnakumar to consider introducing a direct Hyderabad-Atlanta flight to alleviate the travel difficulties faced by students and other passengers.
The Delta management promised to take steps towards launching direct flights to Hyderabad.
Will DL start the Flights?
Currently, no airline operates direct flights between Hyderabad and the United States. Further, Delta Air Lines has no direct flights to India.
Air India (AI) had earlier launched a Hyderabad to Chicago (ORD) service, but it was rerouted via Delhi after a few months. Additionally, Air India’s service to London Heathrow ended in March 2023, with some operations shifting to Gatwick.
Hyderabad is currently connected to only two European cities. Firstly, British Airways (BA) offers daily flights to London Heathrow (LHR), and secondly, Lufthansa (LH) operates five weekly flights to Frankfurt (FRA).
Due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine since 2022, Western sanctions on Russia prevent airlines from using Russian airspace.
As a result, establishing a direct connection seems unlikely unless the situation changes. Unlike Western carriers, Air India retains the right to use Russian airspace.
So Air India might start direct flights from Hyderabad to US cities. As we reported, Air India is already planning to launch flights between Dallas (DFW) and HYD.
