Southwest Serve the Route

Delta’s entry challenges Southwest Airlines (WN) current monopoly on the AUS-MSY route.

In March 2025, Delta will operate 62 flights each way, offering 4,340 seats per direction. However, Southwest maintains a significant advantage with 248 flights scheduled, providing 38,504 seats for the month.

The new service strengthens Delta’s presence at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, where it’s currently operating its largest schedule ever.

The airline’s decision to enter this market with a smaller aircraft allows for frequency-based competition against Southwest’s larger planes
