Delta Served Only Pasta on 75 International Flights Amid Spoiled Food Incident

ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) temporarily offered only pasta to international travelers after a plane made an emergency landing due to passengers falling sick from moldy food.

The carrier decided to reduce meal choices on 75 international flights “out of an abundance of caution” and instructed staff to inspect dishes before serving them.

Delta Served Pasta on International Flights

This decision followed a flight from Detroit to Amsterdam that had to divert to New York’s JFK Airport on July 3 after about 24 passengers fell ill from food contamination.

One passenger reported to DailyMail.com that travelers had been served moldy chicken, which both pilots also consumed.

On Wednesday and Thursday, global travelers in economy seats were given only a pasta option for their in-flight meal.

Atlanta based carrier spokesperson confirmed to DailyMail.com that the restricted meal options were in place for just two days and that all dining choices have now been restored.

NBC reported that Delta Air Lines implemented the meal change on 75 international flights immediately on Wednesday and Thursday.

This decision followed the airline’s apology to customers and announcement of an investigation into the incident.

Official Remarks

Delta Corporate Communications Spokesperson Lisa Hanna said, “Out of an abundance of caution, Delta teams have proactively adjusted our in-flight meal service on a number of international flights. This is not the service Delta is known for, and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels.”

Ash Dhokte, a VP responsible for onboard services, emphasized that these incidents are “extremely rare” and instructed staff to “please examine the dish before serving it and do not serve any food that may have a contaminant.”

Dhokte also mentioned in a staff note that “Gate Gourmet caters for us at 19 domestic stations, and we are reviewing strategies to limit disruptions for you and our customers should an interruption occur,” as reported by CNBC.

The disruption occurred as millions of people took to America’s skies on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

The TSA had previously warned that 32 million travelers would fly during the Independence Day holiday week, adding strain to an already stretched aviation industry.
