Denver Airport Eyes New Massive Bridge to Connect Concourse B and C

DENVER- Denver International Airport (DEN) is considering a new massive bridge to connect Concourse B and C in response to capacity and reliability issues with the terminal train.

With plans to add 100 more gates by 2045, the airport needs to find a big solution to a growing problem that includes expanding the existing bridge.

The concept of extending the bridge between the Landside and Concourse A onward to B and C has been under consideration since at least last Summer.

Some discussion was published in local Denver media, indicating that the airport has settled on bridges as the solution after reviewing various options.

DIA CEO Phil Washington stated that digging more tunnels is too costly and less viable, while shuttles would not be able to manage the airport’s growing capacity. Tunnels are simply not a feasible option.

The airport also hopes to include concessions on the bridges, making them the most realistic answer to the problem.

Proposed Project

The proposed bridge from Concourse A to B would be 1,400 feet long, and from B to C would be 1,100 feet long.

These bridges would need to be 70 feet high to accommodate various aircraft types. Despite the massive scale, engineering firms believe that it is not impossible, with one firm estimating a cost of around half a billion dollars.

Although the potential project is promising, there is still uncertainty surrounding the price tag, contractor, and timeline. Washington stated that the bridges are not cheap, and more detailed analysis is needed before moving forward with the project.
