80 777 to be Refurbished

Emirates is launching a massive refurbishment project for 80 Boeing 777 aircraft, investing over US$3 billion to enhance its in-flight experience. Furthermore, the upgraded 777s will be deployed on routes to Geneva, Tokyo Haneda (HND), and Brussels (BRU) in the coming weeks, with more destinations to be announced soon.

The refurbishment was executed entirely in-house by a team of 175 engineers and technicians at Emirates Engineering in Dubai. This project has significantly impacted the local aviation ecosystem, involving more than 10 major partners who have hired hundreds of skilled workers and established workshops to support various aspects of the program.

The first Boeing 777 refurbishment took 37 days and 18,000 manhours to complete. Further, the teams worked around the clock in a precise sequence, from removing the old interiors to installing and testing new seats and cabin components.

To deliver the first Boeing 777 refurbished plane, the Emirates used a total of:

  • 330 square metres of carpets
  • 340 laminate sheets
  • 8,000 square feet of leather for First, Business, and Premium Economy Class seats
  • 800 meters of fabric for Economy Class seats
  • 300 litres of paint
