Former Jet Airways CEO’s Daughter Bumped

Wharton graduate Sanjiv Kapoor shared this incident on X (formerly known as Twitter) and stated that her daughter was bumped from Iberia’s JFK-bound flight. Iberia told her that she needs to find a new flight through British Airways (BA). Iberia cannot help.

The exact details of her flight are not known but it seems that the incident is from yesterday’s (August 4, 2024) flight and it could be one of two flights that Iberia operates.

Following this post, Sanjiv Kapoor received two fake responses from spammers. But British Airways finally resolved the issues by re-booking on another flight.

Mr. Kapoor praised the British Airways staff for resolving the issue and said that they were good at doing their job.

Mr. Kapoor has worked at renowned companies such as Oracle, Northwest Airlines, Bain & Company, and more. He returned to India and joined Spicejet Airlines as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and he joined Vistara in 2016 as Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer. He also led the Oberoi hotels as the president for almost a year before joining Jet Airways as Designated CEO. Currently, he is an Advisor to the Director-General of Saudia Airlines Group.

Well, he is an aviation veteran, and hence BA staff talked nicely and carefully. Because some reports from passengers reveal BA staff are racists.

BA Gate Agent Racist Behaviour

Last month, A British Airways gate agent faced accusations of racial profiling against an Indian-origin passenger. The incident occurred during boarding for flight BA228 from Baltimore (BWI) to London Heathrow (LHR).

The passenger reported on social media that he was singled out from the boarding line and asked to show his passport. While passport checks are routine, the agent’s alleged comments sparked controversy.

According to the passenger, the agent justified the extra scrutiny by claiming they face similar treatment when traveling to India. This explanation raised concerns about discriminatory practices.

The passenger condemned the incident as racial profiling, calling it discriminatory and humiliating. He expressed disbelief that such practices persist in 2024’s diverse society.

The traveler urged British Airways to recognize that targeting passengers based on ethnicity is unacceptable.
