Global Airlines flew its First Airbus A380 to the UK

PRESTWICK- The new startup Global Airlines, once considered unlikely to take off, is now challenging skepticism as its inaugural Airbus A380 lands in the United Kingdom (UK).

With its new registration 9H-GLOBL, the aircraft departed from Montreal at 03:30 EST this morning and landed at Scotland’s Prestwick Airport just before 17:00 local time.

Global Airlines A380 to UK

This flight marks a milestone not only for Global Airlines but also for Prestwick Airport (PIK). Situated approximately 30 miles southwest of Glasgow, Prestwick is the less busy of the city’s two airports, primarily served by Ryanair (FR) for commercial flights.

Despite boasting a runway nearly 10,000 feet long (9,797 feet, to be precise), Prestwick has never before welcomed an Airbus A380.

The A380 had been in storage at Mojave Air and Space Port since December 2022, with its last commercial flight dating back to February 2020. Originally part of China Southern’s fleet, this superjumbo has been in service for approximately 11 and a half years.

After changing ownership to Global Airlines in January of this year, the aircraft underwent a couple of test flights in mid-February before embarking on its transatlantic journey.

The journey officially commenced on April 30th, as 9H-GLOBL departed from Mojave shortly before 06:00. It arrived in Montreal just before 16:00, where it remained overnight before being refueled for the final segment of its journey.

Unique Approach

Established in 2021, Global Airlines is spearheaded by serial entrepreneur and travel influencer James Asquith.

While it aims to establish a hub in London, early promotional materials hint at a potential focus on Gatwick Airport.

Although the airline has not revealed specific operational details, it has hinted at functioning as a full-service carrier, offering first and business-class amenities to enhance the flying experience for passengers.
