IndiGo New Routes from Durgapur

IndiGo Airlines will operate daily flights from Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport to Bhubaneswar beginning August 30. The flight will arrive in Durgapur at 12:55 pm and depart at 4:35 pm.

Flights to Bagdogra will operate four days a week, departing at 1:15 pm and returning at 4:05 pm.

There will also be a thrice-weekly service to Guwahati, with the flight leaving at 3:15 pm and returning at 4:50 pm.

These new flights will save four to six hours of travel time for residents of Asansol, Chittaranjan, Burdwan, Bankura, Bishnupur, Purulia, Raniganj, Sainthia, Suri, Bolpur, and Rampurhat in West Bengal, and Dhanbad and Bokaro in Jharkhand, who otherwise would have to travel by road to Kolkata.

Currently, IndiGo operates all flights from Durgapur, with daily services to Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, four flights a week to Mumbai, and three flights a week to Chennai.

Samir Banerjee, former AAI coordinating in charge at the airport, stated, “Airlines consider three factors: passenger potential, runway length, and the instrument landing system (ILS) for operational reliability. Durgapur airport meets all these criteria, with a large catchment area of industrial towns, a 2,800-meter runway suitable for C-type aircraft, and Category-I ILS allowing aircraft to land in visibility as low as 800 meters.”

From August 2024, India’s largest domestic carrier will deploy aircraft fitted with business-class on some of the country’s busiest domestic and international routes.

Further, the details about the product offering, launch date, and specific routes will be revealed around the airline’s 18th anniversary in August.
