IndiGo Airlines Delhi to Varanasi Flight Receives Hoax Bomb Threat

DELHI- Passengers on an IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight from Delhi (DEL) to Varanasi (VNS) were evacuated via emergency slides at Delhi airport on Tuesday morning (May 28, 2024) following a bomb threat, as reported by news agencies. Following this, the aircraft moved to an isolation bay for further investigation.

Aviation security and a bomb disposal team inspected the aircraft on site, according to a Delhi airport official.

IndiGo Gets Hoax Bomb Threat

A video from news agency PTI shows passengers being evacuated via an emergency exit.

IndiGo stated, “Flight 6E2211 from Delhi to Varanasi received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. All necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was moved to a remote bay as per airport security guidelines. Passengers were safely evacuated via emergency exits, and the flight is currently undergoing inspection. Once security checks are complete, the aircraft will return to the terminal area.”

The Delhi fire benefit reported, “At 5:35 am, we received news of a bomb on the flight from Delhi to Varanasi. Quick Response Teams (QRT) arrived at the scene.”

Furthermore, the Delhi Airport Authorities confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft and no one was injured.

The video probably shot by one of the airport staff or passengers went viral on social media.

In a video, you can watch that some passengers are seen exiting the aircraft with bags, even trained pilot doing the same, this is a clear violation of rules and they should not do this during emergencies.

I think DGCA must investigate this and should direct IndiGo to train their crew to be more professional in handling such emergencies.

According to FlightRadar24 data, IndiGo flight 6E2211 was scheduled to operate by leased A320, registered as 9H-SLH but it is at DEL at the isolation bay and is getting inspected for any trace of unidentified or harmful items.

At the time of publishing this post, the IndiGo DEL-VNS flight is airborne and is operated by another Smartlynx Airlines Malta (2N) leased 16-year-old Airbus A320-200 aircraft, registered as 9H-SLD.

This is not the first time that Indian carriers have received hoax calls or notes claiming bomb on planes.

Similar Incidents

Earlier this month, a bomb scare on an Air India (AI) flight from Delhi (DEL) to  Vadodara (BDQ) caused some panic among passengers.

A note found on a tissue paper in the flight’s lavatory mentioned the word “bomb.”

The incident was reported around 7:30 pm, and flight AI819 operated by Airbus A321 was thoroughly searched. Fortunately, nothing suspicious was found.

The Central Industrial Security Force and  Delhi Police were immediately informed, and passengers were asked to deboard. Passengers were later flown to  Vadodara on a different flight.

In a statement, Air India said, “A specific security alert was detected on Air India flight AI819, scheduled to operate from  Delhi to  Vadodara on May 15, 2024, just before departure. All passengers were safely deboarded according to protocol, and the aircraft was moved to a remote bay for mandatory checks by security agencies.”

“Our ground team worked hard to minimize the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption,” the airline added.

“Air India is committed to prioritizing the safety and security of its passengers and crew. This morning, passengers were flown to Vadodara on a special flight,” the statement concluded.
