IndiGo Bengaluru to Ahmedabad Flight Suffers Tyre Burst

AHMEDABAD- During a tense moment for passengers on a flight bound for Ahmedabad (AMD) from Bengaluru (BLR), operated by IndiGo Airlines (6E), the aircraft’s tire ruptured upon landing at the city’s airport.

The Incident occurred around 4:30 pm on Friday, as IndiGo Airlines flight 6E6595 had just touched down at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

IndiGo Tyre Burst at Ahmedabad

“Shortly after the aircraft landed at the city airport, it was in the process of taxiing toward the aerobridge when the pilot notified of a tire rupture,” disclosed a source familiar with the situation.

Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were confirmed safe following the incident.

“A source revealed that the ground staff efficiently evacuated all passengers from the aircraft when the incident occurred. Upon notification to the air traffic controller (ATC), airport ground staff and maintenance teams swiftly responded, relocating the plane to a safer area to avoid obstructing the taxiway and ensuring uninterrupted operations for other flights,” shared an insider familiar with the situation at the airport

It was confirmed that the affected aircraft was scheduled to continue ferrying passengers from Ahmedabad onwards, but the flight was subsequently delayed and ultimately grounded.

An IndiGo spokesperson stated, “Upon the arrival of flight 6E6595 from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad, tyre decapping was observed. The incident is currently under investigation, and the aircraft will resume operations following necessary maintenance.”

Similar Incidents

Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet (SG) Boeing 737 MAX suffered a tyre burst on landing at  Kochi. Further, the SpiceJet flight SG17 operated between  Dubai Airport ( DXB) and  Cochin Airport (COK).

The incident took place on July 4, 2023 on Tuesday. This is not SG’s first involvement in such an incident.

In response to the incident, a SpiceJet spokesperson reassured that all system parameters were functioning normally and the landing was executed smoothly. The burst tyre was discovered during a routine surveillance procedure conducted after the flight.

“After conducting a post-flight walk around, we observed that the No 2 tyre had burst. It’s important to note that all system parameters, including the landing, were normal throughout the flight,” stated the airline’s spokesperson.

The aircraft involved in the incident was a Boeing 737 MAX, registered as VT-MXB. Further, it is a four-year and six-month-old aircraft; Boeing delivered it to SG in 2018.
