Ezhou Huahu Airport, situated in central China, serves as a key node on the “Air Silk Road.” It now operates 24 international cargo routes to 27 global destinations. The new Ezhou-Kolkata route expands Hubei’s cross-border logistics network and facilitates China-India trade.

Mark Sutch, Chief Commercial Cargo Officer shared on LinkedIn that,

“A great pleasure to officiate at the opening of IndiGo CarGo’s latest phase of its international freighter strategy. This week we opened a new 3 times weekly freighter service between Kolkata in India and Ezhou (鄂州)in China’s Hubei Province.”

“Ezhou is a new logistics-focused airport with a large express carrier as the base carrier – think the Memphis of China! For our customers, the airport’s central China location offers very extensive reach via road feed service to multiple China metros,” added Mr. Sutch.

Air Silk Route

Ezhou Huahu Airport will expand its international cargo network in 2024. The airport now connects to Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. This growth shifts the “Air Silk Road” from point-to-point connections to a comprehensive network.

IndiGo Cargo’s Chief Commercial Officer Mark highlights the route’s importance for frozen fresh products. It opens new channels for global fresh food suppliers to access the Chinese market.

The Ezhou-Kolkata route strengthens China-India cooperation in air cargo. It enhances trade opportunities, particularly in the fresh and frozen goods sector.

This development aligns with China’s broader “Air Silk Road” initiative. It aims to boost international trade and economic cooperation through improved air connectivity.
