IndiGo Keen to Add New Flights to Oman

MUSCAT- IndiGo (6E), India’s largest airline in terms of passengers and aircraft fleet, expressed interest in expanding its operations in the Sultanate of Oman.

Currently, the airline offers direct flights from Muscat (MCT) to Mumbai (BOM), Kochi (COK), and Hyderabad (HYD), and previously operated routes to cities like Chennai (MAA), Delhi (DEL), and Calicut (CCJ), among others.

IndiGo Flights to Oman

In a recent conversation with the Observer, CEO Pieter Elbers stated, “We remain open to the option, as the Gulf is a crucial part of our network. We operate 210 flights per week to Gulf destinations, including Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

“We will continue expanding in Oman. There is still potential for growth and further development of our current operations. Our expansion efforts are not limited to Oman but extend throughout the region. This broad approach to growth is a key aspect of Indigo.”

Elbers mentioned that the airline has three years to decide how to deploy its A350s, which will be delivered in 2027. Before that, the arrival of A321XLRs will enable the airline to expand services to Europe and Asia.

Currently, the airline serves 121 destinations, including 33 international routes from India, and has a fleet consisting of 182 A320s, 94 A321 neos, 45 ATRs, and two 777s.

He noted that while the Indian market holds significant potential, it is highly competitive and extremely price-sensitive. Additionally, the regulatory environment presents challenges. Factors such as winter fog in Delhi and the monsoon season in the south are beyond anyone’s control.

Introducing Business Class

The airline plans to introduce business class on its busiest routes, such as between Mumbai and Delhi.

IndiGo CEO said, “We have many corporate customers. Over the last 19 years, Indigo has evolved beyond a traditional low-cost airline operating between secondary airports. We now operate from all major airports in India with high frequency, have code-share partners, and offer extensive connectivity.”

“This step is a natural progression for Indigo as it grows alongside India’s development. We’ve also made flying accessible to many Indians who couldn’t afford it in the past but can now. The Indian market is unique, and we continue to welcome first-time flyers,” added Pieter Elbers.

Additionally, Indigo has introduced a new feature that allows female travelers to see where other women are sitting when selecting seats for their flights. This feature is available to women traveling solo or as part of a family booking.
