Lufthansa City Airlines First Flight

Lufthansa CEO shared the insights on his LinkedIn profile about this new milestone. He wrote that,

It’s not every day I am able to announce the very first flight of a new airline. Yet as of now, Lufthansa City Airlines – as part of Lufthansa Airlines – has taken to the skies across Europe!

He further added that,

‘Today marked a significant milestone for us and airline as the first flight, VL2508, took off at 9:10 AM. The Airbus A320neo, affectionately named “Juliet-India,” departed from Munich and is en route to Birmingham. Following this, flights to Dusseldorf, Cologne, Hanover, and Bremen are scheduled.

The fleet expansion continues with an A319 set to fly to Bordeaux, Hamburg, and Berlin. In the near future, the Airbus A320 family will see five additional aircraft, with plans to further expand the fleet by adding at least eight more A320neo and additional A319s.

Looking ahead, Lufthansa City Airlines has ordered 40 fuel-efficient Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with deliveries beginning in 2026.

For those seeking modern, efficient aircraft and the exceptional customer experience that Lufthansa is known for, book your flight with the new Airlines today!’

Jens Fehlinger, Managing Director of Lufthansa City Airlines also added,

The airline is committed to successfully positioning itself in the European short and medium-haul segment from Munich and Frankfurt. A major investment in the future that will strengthen Germany as an aviation location and create numerous attractive jobs.”

Why need for a New Airline?

Once again Jens Ritter has the answer to this wonderful question. He says,

‘The inner-European market is experiencing significant growth, and Lufthansa City Airlines is eager to seize this opportunity. As a hub-and-spoke system, we rely on mid- and short-haul traffic to support our long-range aircraft operations. This market is competitive, but we are prepared to succeed with robust and flexible operational platforms that feature competitive structures.

Lufthansa City Airlines is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, developed over the last two years by an exceptional project team comprising colleagues from Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa Airlines, and the Group.

Like Air Dolomiti, Discover Airlines, and CityLine, Lufthansa City Airlines is an integral part of the Lufthansa Airlines division, committed to delivering excellent service and expanding our reach within Europe.’
