Currently, the one is still stored at Teruel Airport (TEV) in Spain. This aircraft, D-AIMA, is nearly 15 years old and is the oldest superjumbo in the German airline’s fleet.

Since early June, the 14.5-year-old D-AIMB has been at Lufthansa Technik in Manila (MNL), Philippines, where it will undergo major maintenance over the coming months.

The 13.5-year-old D-AIMH has returned from the Philippines and is currently being prepared for operations in Frankfurt. It will become the sixth Airbus A380 that Lufthansa will fly from Munich this summer.

The other five are D-AIMN and D-AIMM (both about 9.5 years old), D-AIML and D-AIMK (both around 10.5 years old), and D-AIMC, which is just over 14 years old.

Currently, D-AIMC flies to New York (flight number LH410). The other superjumbos operate on routes to Boston (LH424), Washington (LH414), and Los Angeles (LH452).

What about Winter Routes?

Well, according to Lufthansa, New York, Boston, and Washington will no longer be served by A380s in the winter of 2024/2025. Instead, these routes will be flown by Airbus A350s or A340s, while Los Angeles will continue as an A380 destination.

In exchange, the Bangkok flight LH772, currently operated by an A350, will switch to an A380 in the winter. The Delhi flight LH762 has been announced as an A380 route for both summer and winter, although it is currently served by an Airbus A340-600.

Lufthansa’s A380s have 509 seats: eight in First Class, 78 in Business Class, 52 in Premium Economy, and 371 in Economy Class. In the future, these double-decker aircraft will feature a new Business Class with aisle access for all passengers.

“In the second half of 2025, the first Airbus A380 will be flying with a new Business Class,” Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr announced in March regarding the conversion schedule.

Lufthansa is one of the few carriers that also operates Boeing 747 along with A380s.
