Malaysia Airlines Group Adds New Flights, Routes and More

KUALA LUMPUR- Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced a major expansion of its network, adding new routes and flight frequencies while upgrading its in-flight services. The move strengthens Malaysia Airlines (MH) and Firefly (FY) as they boost connectivity across Asia and beyond.

Malaysia Airlines will begin daily flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) on 9 January 2026, marking its seventh destination in Greater China. Firefly, meanwhile, will launch new jet services from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Krabi (KBV), Siem Reap (SAI), and Cebu (CEB) starting in November 2025.

Malaysia Airlines Group Ambition Plans

The addition of Chengdu to Malaysia Airlines’ network underscores its commitment to China, one of the fastest-growing travel markets.

The launch follows Malaysia and China’s reciprocal visa-free entry, boosting demand for leisure and business travel. Current services already connect Kuala Lumpur with Beijing (PKX), Shanghai (PVG), Guangzhou (CAN), Xiamen (XMN), Hong Kong (HKG), and Taipei (TPE).

For Firefly, the new routes strengthen its position as a regional connector within ASEAN. Operating from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) Terminal 1, the services to Krabi, Siem Reap, and Cebu provide direct access to key tourist and cultural destinations while supporting Malaysia’s role in regional tourism growth.

Increased Flight Frequencies

Both Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will enhance frequencies across existing routes starting October 2025.

Malaysia Airlines will add flights to Australia, New Zealand, China, India, the Maldives (MLE), and Bangladesh (DAC).

Key examples include Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL) rising to 21 weekly services each, and Dhaka (DAC) increasing from 14 to 21 flights weekly.

Firefly is also stepping up connectivity. Routes from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore (SIN), Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Kuching (KCH), Penang (PEN), and Johor Bahru (JHB) will see frequency boosts, giving passengers more flexibility and travel options.

The Subang (SZB) to Penang (PEN) service will expand from 35 to 42 weekly flights by December 2025.

Upgraded Fleet and In-Flight Experience

MAG’s fleet modernization is central to its growth strategy. Malaysia Airlines will introduce the Airbus A330neo on Australia and New Zealand routes, delivering higher fuel efficiency and improved passenger comfort.

By early 2026, Malaysia Airlines is projected to operate the youngest widebody fleet in Australasia.

Onboard, the carrier is enhancing the dining experience with new options such as a vegetarian satay made from Lion’s Mane mushroom.

This plant-based dish, available in Business Suite and Business Class, reflects MAG’s blend of culinary tradition with evolving passenger preferences.
