Manchester Airport Cancels Flights Amid Power Outage Across Terminals

MANCHESTER- One of UK’s busiest airport, Manchester Airport (MAN) announced on social media that, ‘They are affected by a significant power outage on Sunday morning (June 23, 2024), following this they were forced to cancel many flights.’

The airport restored the electricity, but it affected the crucial systems, which includes boarding pass checking machines and baggage processing units.

Manchester Airport Cancels Flights

The power outage at Manchester Airport mostly affected the Terminal 1 and 2, affecting thousands of passengers.

Due to this airport told passengers to don’t show up at airport, especially those who are travelling from Terminal 1 and 2. Passengers are also advised to check the status of their flights from respective airlines.

Further, the passengers travelling from Terminal 3 can come to airport as usual and board their respective flights.

Apart from this, flight arriving to the airport is being diverted to other nearby airports. So those who are coming to airport to pick up passengers should check the flight status and its arrival airport.

Many flights from airlines such as easyJet (U2), Etihad (EY), Ryanair (FR), Singapore Airlines (SQ) and Virgin Atlantic (VS) forced to divert to other airports.

Airline issued an apology and wrote,

We thank passengers for their patience and our resilience team and customer service colleagues for their hard work. We apologies for the inconvenience and are working hard to restore normal service as soon as possible.”

Overall, the T3 is operational and T1 and T2 flights are affected. So, you can see some flights sill taking off from the airport.

This is not the first time that power outage or system outage has caused delays and flight cancellations at airport.

Recently, Southwest Airlines (WN) passengers experienced disruption due to computer system outage. Well, following the firewall issues across the system, the budget carrier was forced to ground or delay around 1,500 flights affecting thousands of passengers across the United States.

Last year, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila, Philippines encounter a power cut. The outage at country’s busiest airport caused chaos inside the terminal 3.
