New Airline: AirExplore Gets DOT Approval to Start Flights in the US

WASHINGTON- Slovakian airline AirExplore (ED) has recently received approval from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin operations in the United States, marking a key milestone for the carrier.

This approval comes over a year after AirExplore was acquired by Avia Solutions Group, the largest global ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operator.

AirExplore: New US Airline

With this conditional Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) from the U.S. DOT, AirExplore will expand its operations across the Atlantic.

The permit allows the airline to operate scheduled and charter flights for passengers, cargo, and mail between the U.S. and various international destinations. These flights will use wet-leased aircraft that meet FAA Part 129 certification requirements.

This is not AirExplore’s first attempt to secure operational rights in the U.S. Following its acquisition by Avia Solutions Group, the airline reapplied for the FACP earlier this year and successfully obtained the permit, enhancing its ability to offer international services.

AirExplore is also expanding its fleet to support its new U.S. operations. The airline recently added three Boeing 737-800 freighters, bringing its fleet to 17 aircraft. This includes nine aircraft dedicated to passenger services and eight for cargo operations, all based on the Boeing 737-800 model.

Charter and ACMI Operator

Since 2010, AirExplore has established itself as Slovakia’s largest wet leasing airline, specializing in charter and ACMI services. It leases aircraft to major airlines like Condor, Norwegian, Aegean Airlines, Air Peace, and Ryanair, showcasing its strong market presence and adaptability to diverse aviation demands.

AirExplore’s growth aligns with the strategic vision of its parent company, Avia Solutions Group, which owns multiple airlines including SmartLynx Airlines, Avion Express, Bluebird Nordic, KlasJet, BBN Indonesia Airlines, and Magma Aviation.

Avia Solutions Group holds nine Air Operator’s Certificates (AOCs) in Europe and one in Indonesia, managing a fleet of 214 aircraft, highlighting its extensive influence in the aviation sector.

In addition to airline operations, Avia Solutions Group provides a broad range of aviation services, including Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), pilot and crew training, ground handling, and other support services. This comprehensive service portfolio positions the group as a global leader in aviation, capable of meeting a wide array of operational needs for airlines.

As AirExplore enters the U.S. market, this expansion supports Avia Solutions Group’s goal to enhance its global footprint and deliver flexible aviation solutions to address the increasing demands of the industry.
