Qatar Airways Named Best Airline in the World by Skytrax and More

LONDON- Qatar Airways (QR) has been honored with the ‘Best Airline’ or ‘Airline of the Year’ title by Skytrax, marking an unprecedented eighth win. This prestigious award underscores the airline’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

Additionally, the 5-star carrier received three more accolades: ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge’, and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’.

Qatar Airways Best Airline in the World

The 2024 World Airline Awards were unveiled in a gala ceremony on Monday, June 24th, 2024, at the iconic Fairmont Windsor Park, near London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

The event saw over 325 guests from airlines worldwide, including numerous airline CEOs, Presidents, and Senior Management, proudly accepting their awards. As is customary, uniformed airline staff showcased their corporate brands at the World Airline Awards.

Dubbed ‘the Oscars of the aviation industry’, the World Airline Awards have been recognizing excellence since 1999. The awards are known for their independence and impartiality, with all customer survey costs and event expenses covered by the organizers, Skytrax.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, commented on the airline’s achievements:

“This is a proud Qatar Airways moment, and I am honored to share this award with my hardworking colleagues. This award is a testament to our relentless dedication to providing unparalleled service and innovation. We look forward to more wins in the future.”

Other Winners

There is long list of airlines that has won multiple awards across different formats. So here are some of the renewed airlines:

Singapore Airlines (SQ), the 2023 Airline of the Year winner, has been ranked No. 2 globally for 2024, followed by Emirates (EK) in third place, ANA All Nippon Airways (NH) in fourth, and Cathay Pacific (CX) in fifth, among more than 350 airlines in the survey.

Singapore Airlines received top honors for the World’s Best Cabin Staff and maintained its lead with the World’s Best First-Class award. The airline also earned the title of Best Airline in Asia, highlighting its exceptional service standards in a competitive region.

ANA All Nippon Airways secured the No. 4 global ranking, winning the World’s Best Airport Services award and Best Airline Staff Service in Asia.

Saudi Arabian Airlines (SV) was named the World’s Most Improved Airline for 2024, ahead of STARLUX Airlines (JX) in second place and PLAY (OG) in third. This award reflects significant quality improvements across the entire Awards program, evaluating global rating changes and performance in various categories.

AirAsia (AK) continued its streak as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline, a title it has held since 2010. Scoot (TR) earned the top award for the World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline.

In Europe, Volotea (V7) was awarded Best Low-Cost Airline, followed by Transavia France (HV) in second place and Vueling (VY) in third.

British Airways (BA) won the World’s Most Family Friendly Airline award, recognizing excellence in family seating policies, family check-in facilities, priority boarding, children’s meals, amenities, onboard entertainment, child luggage policies, and the quality of service from ground staff and cabin crew during family travel.

Cathay Pacific received the award for World’s Best Economy Class, while Japan Airlines (JL) won World’s Best Premium Economy Class.

Best Lounge and More

Plaza Premium was awarded World’s Best Independent Airport Lounge Operator, with its lounge at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport ranking top in 2024.

The Best Regional Airline Awards honor full-service airlines primarily operating domestic and short international flights. Bangkok Airways (PG) topped the global ratings as the World’s Best Regional Airline for the eighth consecutive year, maintaining its status as a customer favorite.

In the India/South Asia region, Vistara (UK) was named Best Airline in India/South Asia and also won Best Airline Staff Service for the region.

Fiji Airways (FJ) secured Best Airline in Australia/Pacific for the second time, along with Best Airline Staff Service in Australia/Pacific.

Delta Air Lines (DL) was honored as Best Airline in North America and also received the award for Best Airline Staff Service in North America.

Allegiant Air (G4) won Best Low-Cost Airline in North America for the first time, in a highly competitive market.

Air Transat (TS) was named World’s Best Leisure Airline, an accolade the Canadian airline has won five times before.

Ethiopian Airlines (ET) was awarded Best Airline in Africa for the sixth consecutive year. Turkish Airlines (TK) was named Best Airline in Europe and received the award for Best Business Class Catering. Hainan Airlines (HU) was recognized as Best Airline in China, and airBaltic won Best Airline in Eastern Europe.

Air France (AF) was a multiple winner in 2024, receiving awards for World’s Best First Class Catering, Best First Class Lounge Dining (CDG), and Best Airline in Western Europe.

Star Alliance was named World’s Best Airline Alliance and also won Best Airline Alliance Lounge for its new Paris CDG Airport lounge.
