Qatar Airways Severe Turbulence

According to a statement from Dublin Airport, six passengers and six crew members were injured, with eight individuals taken to the hospital for further assessment. The incident occurred while Qatar Airways flight QR17 was flying over Turkey.

Dublin Airport confirmed it assists passengers and staff, and that airport operations remain unaffected. The return flight to Doha, QR18, will proceed as scheduled but with a delayed departure.

Qatar Airways told CNN that the flight landed safely in Dublin and that “a small number of passengers and crew sustained minor injuries in flight and are now receiving medical attention.”

“The matter is now under internal investigation,” the statement continued. “The safety and security of our passengers and crew are our highest priorities.”

This incident follows another turbulence event on a Singapore Airlines (SQ) flight, where 104 passengers were injured and a man with a heart condition died.

Flight SQ321, traveling from London to Singapore, cruised at 37,000 feet on Tuesday when it suddenly dropped sharply and ascended several hundred feet. This pattern of dipping and climbing continued for about a minute, according to flight tracking data.

Flight SQ 321 had 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board, according to a statement from the airline.

“Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family,” the statement read.

The airline also noted that it is collaborating with Thai authorities to provide medical assistance to passengers and is sending a team to  Bangkok to offer additional support.

Thai authorities have dispatched ambulances and emergency teams to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Singapore’s Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat expressed his condolences and stated that the government would assist the passengers and their families.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the incident onboard Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from  London Heathrow to Singapore,” he shared on Facebook.

The flight departed from  London Heathrow and encountered turbulence about an hour and a half before reaching Singapore. The turbulence occurred at 3:45 pm local time yesterday during severe thunderstorms in and around Thailand.

Heavy rain was forecast for the region yesterday and today, with meteorologists predicting occasional thunderstorms, which can create challenging conditions for aircraft. However, SQ has yet to comment on the reason for the severe turbulence.
