SWORDS- Ryanair (FR) has suspended all flights to and from Tel Aviv (TLV), Israel until September 30, 2023, affecting routes to seven destinations. This decision follows recent escalations in regional tensions.
The cancellations stem from Israel’s assassination of Hamas political leader Ismael Haniyeh in Tehran and Hezbollah senior commander Fuad Shukr in the previous month. These events have prompted numerous foreign airlines to adjust their schedules.
Ryanair Cancels Israel Flights
Virgin Atlantic (VS) and Delta Air Lines (DL) have also canceled their Tel Aviv flights through September and August respectively. However, many airlines continue to maintain regular operations in Israel.
The Israel Airports Authority reports that Ben Gurion airport remains operational, albeit with reduced air traffic.
United Airlines, Air India, Air Canada, Vueling, American Airlines, and Korea Air have suspended flights to Tel Aviv until October 31, 2023. EasyJet, Turkish Airlines, and Cathay Pacific extended their cancellations to March 2025, signaling long-term concerns.
Lufthansa Group, including Swiss and Austrian Airlines, halted Tel Aviv flights until August 21, 2023. Aegean and Air Baltic suspended operations until August 22 and 26, respectively, while LOT canceled flights through August 20.
El Al maintains a full schedule and increased flights to Athens and Larnaca to repatriate stranded Israelis. Its subsidiary, Sun D’Or, adapted operations using KlasJet charter planes, adding a Larnaca stop for crew changes.
Several airlines continue regular service to Israel, including British Airways, Air France, Blue Bird, Flydubai, Wizz Air, Bulgaria Air, and Ethiopian Airlines.
