Partnership with Riyadh Air

Last week, Riyadh Air (RX), Saudi Arabia’s newest national airline, and Singapore Airlines (SIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a new partnership between the two airlines.

The agreement was signed by Riyadh Air CEO Mr. Tony Douglas and Singapore Airlines CEO Mr. Goh Choon Phong during the 80th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in Dubai, UAE, on June 2, 2024.

Under the MoU, the airlines will explore interline connectivity opportunities, subject to regulatory approval. They will also consider other areas of commercial cooperation, including codeshare arrangements, reciprocal benefits for frequent flyer members, cargo services, customer experience, and digital innovation, laying the foundation for a deeper, long-term strategic partnership.

Furthermore, the SIA reported a record full-year net profit of $2 billion. Following this, SIA’s chief executive Goh Choon Phong announced a profit-sharing bonus of 7.94 months for employees, including pilots.

SIA mentioned that demand for air travel remained strong throughout the year, driven by the reopening of North Asian borders, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan.

Together, SIA and its low-cost carrier Scoot (TR) transported 36.4 million passengers, marking a 37.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.

The Group’s passenger network covered 118 destinations in 35 countries and territories as of March 31, 2024. SIA served 73 destinations, and Scoot served 67. The cargo network included 123 destinations in 37 countries and territories.
