If granted, this proposed route will be the sole nonstop, budget-friendly option connecting Silicon Valley with the country’s capital. It is anticipated to enhance competition by introducing a low-cost alternative and expanding travel choices for Bay Area passengers heading to the Washington, D.C. region.

San José stands as one of the largest cities in the United States lacking direct service to Washington, D.C., and this forthcoming flight from SJC would offer a closer, more convenient travel option for millions of residents.

“Serving as pivotal hubs in the technology sector, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C., boast strong interconnections. Introducing direct flights between these key airports would streamline travel and foster opportunities for enhanced collaboration within these influential markets,” stated Matt Klein, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines.

“Our presence in San José has been warmly received by our guests during our inaugural year of operations at SJC, and we are grateful for the support from the SJC team and our community partners as we pursue this new service.”

“In today’s digital era, there is perhaps no destination more crucial for our national leaders to engage with than Silicon Valley’s capital,” remarked San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “San José is home to leading experts and innovators in AI, data privacy, and the implementation of the CHIPs Act, who are shaping the future through groundbreaking initiatives and setting benchmarks for navigating the evolving landscape.”

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Spirit to establish highly sought-after nonstop service between SJC and DCA,” expressed Mookie Patel, Director of Aviation at SJC.

“DCA serves as an exceptionally well-positioned gateway to both the epicenter of federal governance in Washington and the thriving tech hub in the surrounding area. Combined with SJC’s unparalleled reliability and convenience for Silicon Valley travelers – complemented by Spirit’s affordable fares – this proposed service will offer travelers between these two vital markets an exceptional end-to-end customer experience.”
