“All victims were confirmed dead at the scene and sent to the Lumut Naval Base military hospital for identification,” stated the navy.

A video circulating on local media depicted several helicopters flying in formation when one of the choppers’ rotors clipped another before both aircraft crashed into the ground. Local police confirmed the authenticity of the footage.

The navy announced it would conduct an investigation into the cause of the collision.

According to Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the aircraft involved were a maritime operations helicopter and a Fennec military chopper. They were rehearsing for a parade celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Royal Malaysian Navy, scheduled for Saturday.

Khaled Nordin informed reporters that efforts were underway to confirm the identities of the crew members killed, all of whom were under the age of 40.
