DUBLIN- A Chicago-based carrier, United Airlines (UA), flight UA998 bound for the United States was diverted to Dublin Airport this afternoon due to a medical emergency and a disruptive passenger on board.
Flight UA998 operated by Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, registered as N13018, traveling from Brussels (BRU) to New York (EWR), had to land in Ireland.
United Flight Diverted to Dublin
Passengers remain on the aircraft, and authorities, including the HSE, Gardaí, and NSA, have attended to the situation. The plane remains at the airport stand, and no disruptions to normal operations at Dublin Airport are expected.
Airport operator Daa advises passengers to arrive at the airport as usual for their scheduled flights.
Daa stated on social media,
“Flight UA998 from Brussels Airport to New York’s Newark Airport was diverted to Dublin Airport this afternoon due to reports of two separate incidents – a disruptive passenger and a suspected medical issue – on board. Dublin Airport Operations and Airport Police implemented appropriate protocols for the aircraft’s arrival, and Gardaí, National Ambulance Service, and HSE personnel met the aircraft upon arrival.
“There is no impact on operations at Dublin Airport, and passengers traveling this evening should plan to arrive at the airport as normal.”
Official Remarks
Dublin Live reports that the flight was cleared to depart just before 5 pm local time, with both the unwell passenger and the disruptive passenger removed from the aircraft.
A United Airlines spokesman told Dublin Live: “United flight 998 from Brussels to New York/Newark landed safely in Dublin on Monday due to a disruptive passenger. Separately, a medical situation arose with a different passenger. Medical personnel in Ireland investigated and cleared the flight to continue after the removal of the disruptive passenger, the ill passenger, and one other person traveling with the ill passenger. The flight has re-departed for New York/Newark.”
A HSE spokeswoman told Dublin Live: “Today (Monday, June 3, 2024), HSE National Ambulance Service and HSE Public Health conducted appropriate investigations at Dublin Airport, following protocols in collaboration with Dublin Airport, An Garda Síochána, and Airport Police. Public Health and National Ambulance Service managed this incident according to national public health guidelines.”
