United Tire Burst at Denver

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported the incident and said that they would investigate the incident.

FAA Wrote on its Aviation Accidents and Incidents page that,

“United Airlines Flight 759 landed safely at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, after a main landing gear tire blew when the Boeing 737-900 departed from Denver International Airport. The FAA will investigate. Please contact the airline for additional information.”

According to Flight Radar 24 data, the United flight UAL759 took off from Denver at 9:54 PM UTC. During takeoff, the aircraft experienced a tire burst, the reason for the incident is not clear. However, it can be caused due to debris left by other aircraft on the Runway or due to some FODs.

The flight remained airborne for around two hrs and 49 minutes, which is around 30 minutes more than the average flight time.

Well, this is because the flight crew wanted to burn the extra precautionary fuel which ultimately reduce the landing weight so the aircraft can make a safe landing.

The plane landed safely at Seattle-Tacoma at 12:43 AM UTC. After landing It was approached by emergency vehicles and was stopped at an active runway for 12-15 minutes before towing to the Club SEA Concourse A gate A12.

Similar Incident

A similar incident also occurred on August 24 with Qantas (QF) and we were one of the first to report it.

Qantas Airways flight QF6 from Rome Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Perth International Airport (PER) operated using Boeing 787 was damaged during takeoff.

According to images and information shared by X users, the tire tread damaged the aircraft structure. The incident occurred on August 24, 2024 (Saturday).

Qantas has responded to our article with correct information and here’s the set of info provided by them:

  • During takeoff in Rome, the tread separated from one of our Dreamliner’s tyres damaging the lower right wing of the aircraft.
  • The tyre remained inflated and the flight operated as normal with no impact on systems or safety. Pilots, crew, and passengers were unaware of the incident.
  • The aircraft landed in Perth normally, and the damage was identified by engineers conducting their walk-around on arrival.
  • The aircraft will be ferried to Sydney or Melbourne for further inspection and repairs before returning to service.
  • Last night’s onward Perth to Sydney sector was canceled and passengers were reaccommodated on other services within 4 hours. One other return international service has also been canceled.

Also, Qantas spokesperson added:

We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience and thank them for their understanding.”

Qantas Spokeperson

Following the incident, the airline could not continue its second leg of the flight to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). The flight from Perth to Sydney was canceled.
