United Miami-Newark Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Passenger Bites Attendant

ORLANDO- Chicago-based carrier United Airlines (UA) flight from Miami (MIA) to Newark (EWR) took an unexpected detour on Tuesday (July 9, 2024), landing in Orlando (MCO) due to a passenger’s disruptive behavior.

Flight UA762 became the stage for a chaotic scene when a woman began shouting profanities at fellow travelers and crew members.

United Passenger Bites Attendant

The situation escalated quickly as flight attendants attempted to calm the agitated passenger. Their efforts to restrain her with zip ties were met with violence when she bit a male attendant’s shoulder, tearing his uniform.

The woman’s erratic behavior didn’t stop there – she reportedly spat at another passenger and made threats.

Witnesses described a surreal atmosphere as the woman hurled bizarre accusations, telling one passenger to “Go back to Russia, old lady.” She also claimed that others on board had “attitude problems” and bizarrely accused them of trying to kill her.

Upon landing in Orlando, law enforcement boarded the Boeing 737 aircraft, registered as N68823 to remove the disruptive passenger.

The cabin erupted in applause as she was escorted off the plane. The incident caused a significant delay, with the flight requiring a fresh crew before continuing to Newark.

Official Statement

United Airlines later released a statement acknowledging the incident and praising their staff’s professionalism in handling the situation. They emphasized their commitment to passenger and crew safety.

While the event was undoubtedly stressful for those involved, there’s a silver lining – it’s highly unlikely this particular passenger will be flying United again anytime soon. In a twist of irony, this incident might make future United flights a bit safer for everyone else.

This event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by airline staff and the importance of maintaining composure and safety protocols during in-flight disturbances.

Similar Incident

Earlier this month, an American Airlines (AA) flight took an unexpected turn when a passenger’s unusual behavior forced an emergency landing in New York. Neil McCarthy, a 25-year-old from Oregon, caused quite a stir when he allegedly urinated in the aisle and exposed himself to fellow travelers.

The flight, originally headed from Portland to Manchester with a stop in Chicago, was diverted to Buffalo where authorities were waiting. They promptly arrested McCarthy and charged him with indecent exposure. He later appeared in a Buffalo federal court and was released.

According to a criminal affidavit, McCarthy had indulged in several “Jack and Cokes” before and during his flights. The document also mentioned that he reportedly has a medical urination problem. Eyewitness accounts describe a surreal scene where McCarthy, after using the restroom, engaged in inappropriate behavior in full view of other passengers.

A flight attendant reported to law enforcement that McCarthy had exposed himself and urinated in the aisle of the Embraer regional jet, a small aircraft where such actions would be hard to miss.
