CHICAGO- According to the ACL initial coordination report, United Airlines (UA) has been allocated a slot for a second daily flight to Dubai (DXB) this winter. It is not yet confirmed whether this slot will be used for an additional flight from Newark (EWR) or potentially for a new route.
Subsequently, United has announced the addition of nearly 200 new flights to facilitate travel for convention attendees and political enthusiasts heading to this summer’s national political conventions.
United Adding 200 New Flights
For the Republican National Convention in July, United will boost its Milwaukee flights by over 75%.
In August, for the Democratic National Convention, United will operate the largest schedule from its Chicago O’Hare (ORD) hub since 2019, including a 40% increase in flights between Chicago O’Hare and Washington Reagan.
The airline will add 72 flights to and from Milwaukee (MKE) in July and 118 flights to and from Chicago in August.
“These conventions are steeped in tradition and have now evolved to become a weeklong celebration of our political process,” stated Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances.

According to Ishrion Aviation, ‘United’s allocation shows the flight using the Boeing 777-300ER. Those are currently “based” out of Washington DC (IAD) and San Francisco (SFO). I’d lean towards a potential new IAD-DXB route if this ends up happening.’
Republican National Convention Schedule
United is expanding its Milwaukee schedule by 75% for the Republican National Convention, accommodating nearly 5,000 additional attendees.
Further, the United will operate over 280 flights to and from Milwaukee during the week of the convention, including:
- A new nonstop flight between Milwaukee and Washington Reagan Airport.
- 72 additional flights from United’s hubs in Chicago O’Hare, New York/Newark, Denver, Washington Dulles, and Houston.
- 20 roundtrip flights on larger aircraft.
Democratic National Convention Schedule
For the Democratic National Convention, United will operate its largest Chicago O’Hare schedule since 2019, with over 530 flights per day on peak days. The schedule includes:
- 38 additional flights between Chicago O’Hare and Washington Reagan. All flights between these airports on peak convention days will be on Boeing 737 MAX 8, featuring United’s signature interiors.
- Over 80 additional flights between Chicago O’Hare and cities such as Albany, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Portland, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, and Seattle.
