VietJet Air Sign New Agreement with Ministry of Laos

HANOI- On July 12, 2024, Vietjet Air (VJ) and Laos’ Ministry of Public Works and Transport signed an agreement to enhance air connectivity between Vietnam and Laos. The ceremony in Vientiane includes high-ranking officials from both countries.

Vietjet plans to collaborate with Laos’ Department of Civil Aviation on aviation projects, potentially creating 2,500 new jobs. The airline aims to establish Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) facilities and a Vietjet Aviation Academy in Laos for workforce training.

VietJet Signs Agreement with Laos

The Department of Civil Aviation of Laos will provide administrative, legal, and facility support to facilitate these projects. Vietjet’s expansion in Laos promises affordable flights and quality services for local and international tourists.

This initiative aligns with the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in Transport between Vietnam and Laos for 2016-2025. It aims to boost economic development, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange in the region.

In 2023, Vietjet launched a regional aircraft maintenance center in cooperation with Lao Airlines (QV). The airline also inaugurated its first route between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Vientiane (VTE), offering more travel options and connections to various international destinations.

Vietnam ranks as one of Laos’ largest investors, with 255 active projects totaling $5.5 billion. These investments focus on transport, tourism, science, and technology sectors, promoting sustainable development and shared prosperity in the region.

Earlier this month, VietJet Air launched a new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Xi’an (XIY). The airline celebrated this milestone on July 1, 2024, at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport with government officials and VietJet leaders in attendance.

This service expands VietJet’s Chinese network, complementing existing routes to Shanghai and Chengdu. The new route offers direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Xi’an, a historically significant Chinese city.

VietJet operates four weekly round-trip flights on this route using Airbus A320 aircraft. The 2,626 km journey takes approximately four hours to complete.

The airline aims to strengthen cultural and economic ties between Vietnam and China through this new connection. It also enhances regional travel options within VietJet’s network.

The launch of this route demonstrates VietJet’s commitment to expanding its international presence and connecting major Asian cities. It provides travelers with more options for direct flights between Vietnam and China.
