VietJet Airbus A330neo Order

This deal stands out as one of the largest at this year’s airshow, signaling Vietjet’s ambitious expansion plans. The airline aims to deploy these new aircraft on its growing long-haul routes and high-demand regional services.

Vietjet plans to use the A330neo to replace its current fleet of A330-300 aircraft. This move will support the carrier’s strategy to expand its intercontinental flight network, enhancing its global reach.

The A330neo features an award-winning airspace cabin, offering passengers a superior travel experience. This includes a new lighting system, larger overhead bins, and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.

Executive Remarks

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Vietjet and Airbus in Singapore in February 2024. During the signing ceremony, the executives from both companies highlighted the significance of the deal.

Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong announced the strategic importance of the A330neo acquisition. The new aircraft will modernize Vietjet’s fleet and boost its operational capabilities, supporting the airline’s global network expansion plans.

Phuong emphasized the A330neo’s fuel efficiency, aligning with Vietjet’s sustainable development strategy. The airline aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and this new-generation aircraft plays a crucial role in that goal.

The CEO promised passengers longer-range flights with improved equipment and services at competitive fares. This upgrade signifies Vietjet’s commitment to enhancing customer experience while expanding its reach.

Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus’s Commercial Aircraft business, expressed enthusiasm for Vietjet’s expansion. He highlighted the A330neo’s ability to deliver the lowest possible operating costs per seat, enabling Vietjet to offer value across its expanding route network.

Scherer noted that the A330neo would complement Vietjet’s existing A321XLR orders. This combination of aircraft types will allow the airline to efficiently serve both medium and long-haul routes, facilitating its expansion to more distant destinations.

Vietjet’s A330neo order places it among the leading Asian low-cost carriers upgrading to wide-body aircraft. The Vietnamese airline follows Cebu Pacific (5J) of the Philippines and Indonesia’s Lion Air (JT) in adopting this advanced aircraft model.

Vietjet’s commitment to the A330neo adds to its already substantial order book. The airline has over 100 Airbus A320neo-family jets on order, showcasing its strong partnership with the European manufacturer. In addition to its Airbus orders, Vietjet has commitments for 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
