Wow, IndiGo to Roll Out New In-flight Entertainment, Trial Begins

DELHI- IndiGo Airlines (6E), India’s largest carrier, has announced plans to trial in-flight entertainment content through its app for passengers traveling between Delhi (DEL) and Goa (GOI).

Commencing on May 1, this initiative will be the first time that IndiGo provides such entertainment options to its customers.

The trial, scheduled to last for three months, will enable passengers to access the in-flight entertainment content via the IndiGo app. However, to avoid interference with aircraft electronics, this service will only be activated after the aircraft reaches cruising altitude. Passengers will need to use their personal headphones to enjoy the content.

Upon the successful completion of the trial phase, IndiGo plans to fully implement the in-flight entertainment service, enriching the flying experience for its customers.

With a fleet of more than 350 planes and approximately 2,000 daily flights, IndiGo aims to provide a more enjoyable and engaging travel experience for its passengers.

The introduction of in-flight entertainment reflects IndiGo’s commitment to improving its services and offering a more enjoyable journey for passengers.

The trial on the Delhi-Goa route is expected to be a stepping stone towards broader implementation across its network, significantly enhancing the overall travel experience with IndiGo.

This initiative aligns with IndiGo’s focus on customer satisfaction and innovation, positioning the airline as a leader in the Indian aviation industry.

Further, the airline plans to explore the possibility of launching premium seating, offering hot meals, and implementing a loyalty program by the close of 2024.

A source familiar with the strategy informed the ET that introducing a premium section would enable IndiGo to attract high-yield customers who currently choose competitors like Air India (AI) and Vistara (UK).

Limited Onboard Offerings

IndiGo has maintained a consistent approach to its in-flight offerings. Until now, the airline refrained from installing ovens on board due to the additional weight and costs involved.

Consequently, whether it’s a corporate traveler or an individual on a short-haul or a longer flight, passengers have had to make do with cold or instant food.
