NEW YORK- Air Canada (AC) will relocate its operations to Terminal 6 (T6) at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in 2026. This move positions Air Canada among fellow Star Alliance members in the cutting-edge terminal, marking a significant step in JFK’s $19 billion transformation.
The JFK Terminal 6 is designed to enhance passenger experience with modern amenities, sustainability, and seamless connectivity.

Air Canada (AC), a founding member of Star Alliance, will join Lufthansa (LH), SWISS (LX), ANA (NH), Austrian Airlines (OS), and Brussels Airlines (SN) in JFK’s new Terminal 6.
The terminal is a key element in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s ambitious project to modernize JFK and make it a world-class travel hub.
The airport invests $19 billion to build two terminals, expand current facilities, improve transportation access, and streamline traffic flow.
Terminal 6 promises a boutique, digital-first passenger experience. Travelers can expect NYC-inspired dining and retail, curated public art, and premium lounges.
The terminal boasts sustainable design features and efficient layouts, including an average walking time of under five minutes from security to any gate.
Currently, Air Canada operates out of JFK’s Terminal 7, offering daily flights to Toronto and Montreal via its Embraer E175 aircraft.
These flights are pre-cleared for U.S. customs in Canada, streamlining the travel process. Launched in March 2023, this service complements Air Canada’s robust operations at LaGuardia and Newark airports, providing 36 daily flights between the New York area and Canada.
The transition to Terminal 6 aligns with Air Canada’s strategic focus on the New York market, which is a vital destination for business, leisure, and family travel.
The new terminal will enable smoother connections with Star Alliance partners and access to Air Canada’s extensive international network through its hubs in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
New JFK Terminal 6
JFK Airport Terminal 6 is under construction in 2 phases with phase 1 with 6 boarding gates opening in 2026 and full completion in 2028.
The terminal incorporates ten gates, with nine accommodating widebody aircraft, and features state-of-the-art baggage handling and security systems.
Passengers will benefit from one of JFK’s longest departure areas, complete with airline-specific drop-off zones and multiple lounge options.
The terminal emphasizes both aesthetics and sustainability. New York City-inspired artwork, curated by the Public Art Fund in partnership with JMP and the Port Authority, will showcase local and international artists throughout the space.
The building incorporates sustainable materials, rooftop solar panels, and energy-efficient systems.
The project aims to achieve multiple environmental certifications, including LEED silver or gold, Envision, and SITES standards.
Passenger Enhancement
Terminal 6 is designed with passenger convenience in mind, featuring 100,000 square feet of amenities and services. The terminal’s commitment to sustainability and advanced technology ensures a streamlined travel experience.
Air Canada passengers will benefit from seamless connections, superior lounges, and faster transit times.
JFK Millennium Partners emphasized the strong partnership with Air Canada as a factor in the airline’s move to T6.
