SpiceJet Starts A340 Flights for New Hajj Season

GURGAON- SpiceJet (SG) inaugurated its Hajj operations on Thursday (May 9, 2024), with the first flights departing from Srinagar (SXR) to Medina (MED), marking the commencement of this year’s holy pilgrimage.

These specialized flights utilized two leased wide-body Airbus A340 aircraft, each capable of seating 324 passengers.

SpiceJet Begins Hajj Flights

Alongside Srinagar, SpiceJet will operate special Hajj flights from Guwahati, Gaya, Bhopal, Indore, Aurangabad, and Vijayawada.

According to airline officials, the A340 aircraft will be utilized for operations from Srinagar and Guwahati.

Last year, SpiceJet generated revenue of INR 337 crore from Hajj operations. The airline expects even greater revenue from its Hajj operations for the current year.

In addition to the A340 aircraft, SpiceJet will utilize its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for these special Haj flights.

Debashis Saha, Vice President and Delegated Accountable Manager at SpiceJet, stated, “As the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj commences, SpiceJet is privileged to facilitate this spiritual journey for pilgrims from seven Indian cities. We are fully prepared to ensure a smooth and pleasant pilgrimage experience. We extend our heartfelt wishes for a blessed Haj to all pilgrims.”

Chairman and MD Remarks

“We are thrilled to have secured flight rights for Hajj operations from seven prominent Indian cities. Hajj holds immense significance for SpiceJet, and we are dedicated to delivering top-notch services for the pilgrims,” expressed Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet.

“We are committed to ensuring a smooth and trouble-free travel experience for all our passengers. We eagerly anticipate serving the Hajj pilgrims and contributing to their sacred journey,” added Singh.

In Jan 2024, the Gurgaon-based carrier launched flights to Ayodhya from Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Patna, Darbhanga, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

Special flights with 737 MAX

The inaugural Hajj flight from Srinagar was flagged off by CPS Bakshi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Javed Anjum, Airport Director of Srinagar International Airport, and other dignitaries.

SpiceJet will conduct special flights from Srinagar, Gaya, Guwahati, Bhopal, Indore, Aurangabad, and Vijayawada to Medina from May 9 to May 31. Return flights from Jeddah are scheduled between June 22 and July 15.

SpiceJet plans to operate 102 special flights, serving over 13,800 pilgrims during this special operation.
